Flatten a shape

How can I flatten a shape? Squish it on one axis. So if i had a sphere turn it into a disc. However the shape could be any shape. Is there any way to do this?

I think the general phrase for this would be "projecting onto a plane". I found a few results that might be relevant to you:

So it seems like maybe the HLR module has the functionality you would want. Unfortunately, the bindings to that module likely don't exist yet, so we'd have to add those first.
