Fields only damage monsters when placed or when they move onto the space.

A player pointed out that in Legacy BoE monsters would take damage every turn they stand on a damaging field. I tested this and it is true. So we have a bug on our hands

For PCs, damage is dealt whenever you walk on it, wait on it, AND at the end of each round. Is that excessive? Are monsters supposed to be the same?

That sounds a bit strange, but I'm not sure if it actually differs from legacy.
