Some robots (e.g. URs) provide calibration parameters individual to each robot that could be used to update the URDF on load-time to make the planning more accurate.

NOTE: Universal Robots announced this feature on their upcoming official ROS driver during last ROS-Industrial 2018 conference, but in the meantime, it might be worth trying this.
