Amazon Q Developer is a generative AI code assistant that helps accelerate feature development within GitHub.com and GitHub Enterprise Cloud. Automatically implement new features, generate bug fixes, run code reviews on all new pull requests and modernize legacy Java applications – all while using GitHub native issues and pull requests.

Key capabilities include:

• Feature development agent: Generate code using natural language descriptions to build new features, fix bugs, update tests or documentation. Get started by adding the Amazon Q development agent to your GitHub issue, once Q Developer completes the task, it will link a pull request. You can provide Q Developer with in line feedback on the pull request as part of a review, and then request changes. Q Developer will then use your feedback to refine the solution.
• Code review agent: Automatically analyze pull requests for code quality and potential issues, with the ability to generate and implement fixes. All new PRs in the repo will automatically get an AI assisted code review from Q Developer, shortening the feedback loop and allowing code to make it to production faster.
• Code transformation agent: Modernize Java applications by updating technology stacks from version 8 or 11 to 17 with comprehensive changelogs and minimal manual effort, while improving performance and preserving core functionality. Get started by adding the Amazon Q transformation agent to your GitHub issue and Q Developer will link a pull request when it completes the task.

The agents are offered as preview capabilities, and you can begin using them for free after installing the Amazon Q Developer application. Additional usage is available by connecting your GitHub account with your AWS account. All data is processed in AWS regions in the United States.
