How to "active" custom category?

I created a custom category,

• the sequence number is lower than the others
• assigned items directly

but its "not used".

I didnt find reference for this in the docs, any idea how to "activate" it?

Categories aren’t active until they’re assigned to a Group using Edit Mode.

I agree this could be clearer in the documentation and will try to address that when I can. 🙂
