What will your feature request solve?

Many players and guilds on private servers use characters distributed over many accounts, not just one account. This is due to character limit, separating bank accounts, being able to interact within your own characters etc.
To my understanding, the current implementation of the catalog only tracks characters on the current account. It would be very helpful if this could be extended to all accounts on the realm, not just account.

Basically exactly like the current implementation, but with the catalog also including characters on different accounts on the same realm I have logged onto.

And thank you for the request! I would love to provide cross-account data, but addons can only save data to the account in which they’re loaded (it’s a hard API limitation).

Options I'm aware of:

• Manually copy the Bagshui.lua file between the WTF\Account\<AccountName>\SavedVariables folders of your accounts. You would need to keep track of which one was most recently updated to make sure you didn't overwrite a newer copy with an older one.
• Do the same thing, but with a script. Unfortunately I don't have anything on hand, but you might be able to dig something up with some searching.
• Use the mklink command on Windows or ln on Linux to link all your <AccountName> folders together so they point to the same place. This isn't something I've tested so I don't have any exact directions, I just saw the conversation on the Turtle WoW Discord.

Sorry I don't have better news on this front. I'll update this discussion if I ever come across any definitive solutions.

Just wanted to chime in since I came across this addon on the Turtle WoW discord as well (although I don't play on it atm), and have been enjoying quite a bit so far.

I've been using Symlinks for an extended time on Linux and found it working quite well, although there is a caveat you have to be aware of.

Vanilla Wow will read from the shared .lua files when you log into a character and write to the file whenever you log out.
This can also be forced manually by reloading the ui (such as using /rl command with pfUI, don't recall the base command).
But any changes done to the file after you've loaded them won't be picked up.

Take as an example this order of sequence:

• You log into Player A from Account 1
• You then open up another instance and log into Player B in Account 2
• Then you log out of Player A
• Finally you log out of Player B

Based on the "rules" above, any changes you had done on Player A would not have been written to file when you loaded into Player B. And while logging out of Player A would cause it to write any changes, these would not be picked up by Player B and when logging out from it, it would only save changes done by Player B and all changes from Player A was lost.

The workaround you could do would be to either log out of Player A first (or reload UI), then jump into Player B, in order to keep your initial changes.

For that reason, I don't do a full symlink of the account folders but have a small script which will symlink the files I want, with certain files only being linked on "primary" accounts and not on a banking account.
As an example, Bagshui I would want to link on all my accounts since It would enable to show inventory from all of them, but WIM history I only share on my primary accounts since those are the ones likely to actually whisper people on and want to save the history.

However if you do log into a separate account for a brief moment to send over items and such, you will eventually become a bit "out-of-sync" due to the issue mentioned above.
For instance if you had 5 Righteous Orbs on a banking alt, you quickly jumped on it to send 3 to your main and then logged out while still being on said main, the addon wouldn't be aware of the changes in inventory on the banking alt.

So from time to time I end up just logging into each character on each account one at a time to just synchronize everything back up.

So if you want to link files, the commands you'd use would be:

• On linux : ln -s <PATH_OF_EXISTING_FILE> <PATH_OF_CREATED_LINK>
• On Windows : mklink <PATH_OF_CREATED_LINK> <PATH_OF_EXISTING_FILE>

I'd also really like this feature. If i can add my five cents to help out and/or give ideas about the implementation in any way i can, i'm aware of this addon that supposedly successfully implemented such a feature, albeit i did not test that myself yet:

Looks like ConsumesManager does this by syncing data across a private chat channel, which is a really cool solution. To be honest, I don't really have the motivation to implement this approach at the moment, but if someone built it and submitted a PR, I'd be happy to integrate it.
