Compilation fails on proxmox

Hello all, I'm trying to compile this driver on a proxmox machine. I installed all the needed dependencies with apt, but when I give the make command I obtain this:

make -C /lib/modules/6.8.4-2-pve/build M=/root/tmp/xmm7360-pci modules
make[1]: *** /lib/modules/6.8.4-2-pve/build: No such file or directory.  Stop.
make: *** [Makefile:9: default] Error 2

I'm not exactly an expert of compiling stuff on Linux, go figure on proxmox boxes. Can someone give me a pointer of what's missing here? Thanks in advance!
