The file sys/unistd.h is deprecated, many c libraries ship it as shim, however musl-libc does not.
or fread and fwrite may have unexpected behaviour on mingw64 builds
Open input and output files in binary mode
Include direct.h for Windows _mkdir function

I fixed a couple of strict compilation hangups and some potentially undefined behavior caused by a memset overflow
